The 2021 DFFL Awards

Here are the results of the annual DFFL News Award Winners for 2021.

Most Valuable PlayerTom Brady (Gamblers) The 38th overall selection wins his fourth outright MVP award by putting up 160 fantasy points from 4134 passing yards and 36 TD passes, and even 2 TD’s rushing. Brady had 9 weeks with at least 10 fantasy points and produced 25.7% of the Gamblers offensive output. Brady was also named DFFL MVP in 2007, 2015 and 2017 and shared the award in 2012, as he joins Drew Brees as the only players to be MVP in 5 seasons.

Second Place ended up in a 3 –way tie based on fantasy points scored between Gamblers RB Jonathan Taylor and Sacks in the City QB Matthew Stafford who each scored 140 fantasy points in 13 weeks. F T C QB Josh Allen finished fourth with 138 points

Least Valuable Player –  Miles Sanders (Mandalorians) Sanders appeared as a starter in every week where he was healthy, so in 10 games Sanders rocked a total of 112 carries, 578 yards, 0 touchdowns, 3 bonus points and one 2 point conversion – good for a grand total of 5 fantasy points for the player selected 40th overall.  Also receiving consideration were Sacks in the City WR Allen Robinson (50 targets, 30 catches 337 yards 1 TD = 6 points in 9 starts) from the 48th player selected.  Also not hard to single out  F T C TE Kyle Pitts (85 targets, 54 receptions, 810 yards 1 Touchdown and 14 total points in 10 starts from pick #51

Rookie of the YearJa’marr Chase (Cheeseheads from Hell) Not a lot went right for the Cheeseheads in 2021 but choosing Chase at pick #56 was one of the highlights -  76 points in 13 starts on 60 receptions, 1035 yards and 10 TD’s made this an easy call.  Runner up was Caged Orange RB Najee Harris – taken at pick #12 Harris acquitted himself well behind a disastrous Steelers O-Line with 881 rushing yards, 397 receiving yards and 9 total TD’s = good for 66 fantasy points in his 13 starts

Late Round Steal James Conner (Spartans) – Selected at pick #122 Connor helped carry the team into the playoffs thanks to his 16 total touchdowns and nearly 1000 total yards – good for 101 fantasy points on the year

First Round Draft Bricks – In a bit of a surprise most of the first round picks held their value – with injuries being more the issue than ineffectiveness.  Judge for yourself

Sentimental Value Award The Chuck Evans Award is given annually to the player(s) who were drafted by a DFFL team, spend the entire year on the roster, but never make it into the starting lineup. The Cheeseheads from Hell held on to QB Justin Fields for the entire year after selecting him at pick #113. Honorable mention goes to the Spartans who sucked up a roster spot by carrying WR Jarvis Landry for 13 weeks before finally releasing him

Blindfold Award – This award is given to the player who makes the most of their single fantasy start.

In one of the thinnest crop of performances to consider Sacks in the City wins by picking up and starting WR Hunter Renfrow (13 catches, 117 yards, 1 TD = 8 points in his single start week 14

Todd Collins Award - This award was created in 2010 to honor the player who has the worst performance in their single start.  This year sees no winner as no one produced negative fantasy points in their lone start.

Award for the Most Awards Award - This award is given annually to the teams who appear most often in the "Bogus Move of the Week" column.

Even with the extra week on the fantasy schedule there were only 21 occasions in which a team was referenced in the BMOTW column during the DFFL's regular season. This is down from 32 a year ago.

Thanks to a late season charge by Mean Machines they win a share of the overall award, joining the Cheeseheads from Hell and Caged Orange with 3 nominations for the year.  It’s the third straight season the Machines are an AFTMAA winner

Second place was a five-way tie between the  Mandalorians, The Jerk Meister, Gamblers, F T C, and Cosa Nostra with 2 wins each.   Heinekins and ‘merica’s Team each won the award once

Which means both the Spartans and Sacks in the City managed to make it through the year without having any Bogus Moves
